Is this considered Assault and/or Battery?

Looking for a law enforcement official or someone knowledgeable in the field to help me out here, I was with my friend when she hit me, and kept hitting and kicking me so I acted in self-defense and tried to keep her away from me and back off, but she continued. She then proceeded to scratch my legs and break skin causing bleeding and most likely will scar, (picture available here: http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac12/wyattkoon/scratches.jpg) it was definitely not consentual and I would like to know if I have any kind of assault or battery charges I could charge her with.
