Help me figure out this old movie? The parrot or something...?

Hello, I'm trying to find out the name of a movie I watched a few years ago on AMC. I was old probably 1940's 50's. The plot was about a man who was a preacher...then left the parrish out on a trip and went crazily into this hotel place only to meet and woman and her father that were paying their bills by being traveling artists. The girl in the movie is blonde and I remember a scene where she is trying to calm the crazed man and she says something like "when i'm scared i take ten deep breaths" I think the title was something like the parrot or the cabana or one night something.
